Daimler Truck AG has announced a major investment in the UK market with the acquisition of eStar Truck & Van Ltd, establishing its Own Retail presence in one of Europe’s largest commercial vehicle sectors.

The deal, effective from 1 May 2026, brings six sites in the North West into Daimler Truck’s direct retail network: Knowsley Truck, Knowsley Van, Stoke-on-Trent, Deeside, Trafford Park and Skelmersdale.

Located across one of the UK’s busiest logistics corridors, the sites provide strong access to key freight routes linking Greater Manchester, Merseyside and North Wales, as well as major infrastructure including the M6, M62 and the port of Liverpool.

Strengthening support for UK operators

The acquisition is aimed at improving service levels and strengthening relationships with UK customers, particularly fleet operators who rely on uptime, fast parts availability and consistent support.

Full-service commercial vehicle offering

The newly integrated network will deliver a comprehensive range of services, including:

• Sales of new and used Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Vans, alongside FUSO Trucks
• Service and genuine parts supply for Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Unimog, FUSO Trucks, Mercedes-Benz and Setra Buses, and Mercedes-Benz Vans
• Pre-delivery inspection (PDI) operations at Skelmersdale

 The acquisition includes over 300 employees, ensuring continuity for customers and retaining local expertise across retail, fleet and public sector segments.

Supporting the transition to zero-emission transport

The sites are already equipped to support electric trucks, positioning Daimler Truck to support UK customers as demand for zero-emission commercial vehicles continues to grow.

With direct retail operations now established in the UK, Daimler Truck aims to deliver a more integrated customer experience, combining vehicle supply, aftersales support and tailored service contracts.

Part of wider European growth strategy

The UK acquisition marks the latest step in Daimler Truck’s expansion of its Own Retail network across Europe, following recent developments in Germany, France and the Czech Republic.

By strengthening its presence in key markets, the company is building a more resilient retail network and enhancing support for customers operating across national and international transport routes.

Effective 1 October 2025, Michael Carolan assumed the role of Managing Director. Michael brings more than 25 years of experience within Midlands Truck & Van, having joined the business in 1999 as an Apprentice HGV Technician. Over his career, he has held numerous operational and leadership roles, including Service 24hr Breakdown Technician, Workshop Controller, Service Manager, and Aftersales Director. • The Environment Agency has added two Mercedes-Benz Unimogs to its fleet of specialist vehicles supporting its nationwide incident response duties
• The Unimogs will be used to move excavators, machinery, and other Environment Agency equipment to critical incidents around the country
• Due to their off-road capability, the Unimogs will play a vital role in tackling challenging terrain or reaching remote locations not accessible with standard trucks

The Environment Agency has taken delivery of two Mercedes-Benz Unimog vehicles to support its nationwide incident response role. The vehicles will be used when rapid deployment of equipment and personnel is needed to support flood emergencies in locations across the country. This will include transporting excavators, machinery, and other essential equipment.

The vehicles have been specified to meet the unique demands of emergency response work. This includes being ADR compliant to enable the safe transportation of large fuel cells required to support continuous operation of emergency pumps and generators during prolonged incidents.

Due to their wading capacity, the Unimogs can transport large pumps to locations where they are most needed and deliver materials and equipment into areas already flooded – often when other vehicles cannot get through.

The Environment Agency tendered for an off-road commercial vehicle that could operate both off-road and as a commercial on-road Operator Licenced vehicle, with high capability and large towing capacity. The Unimog met these requirements.

The vehicles feature exceptional ground clearance, portal axles, and an advanced all-wheel drive system enabling them to traverse terrain that would stop conventional trucks. Combined with wading depth and towing capacity, they are suited to emergency response and environmental protection work.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is pleased to announce a further expansion of its network in Scotland with the official opening of a new authorised repairer in Perth.

The new service, repair and parts sales facility in Ruthvenfield Way on the Inveralmond Industrial Estate in Perth represents an investment of £1.75 million for the family-owned and operated commercial vehicle specialist, Auto Services Perth, is creating around 15 new jobs for the local community.

Built on a 1.25-acre site, the new authorised repairer will have trained technicians to repair and maintain electric trucks, offers state-of-the-art facilities and extends the reach of the Mercedes-Benz Truck network for commercial operators in Scotland.

The workshop features:

• 8 fully equipped work bays
• A dedicated inspection pit lane for truck inspections and repairs
• An authorised tachograph calibration, repairs and installation centre

Extended opening hours will operate from 7:00am to midnight, ensuring minimal disruption to operators' working schedules. Auto Services Perth also operates 17 recovery vehicles capable of handling everything from motorcycles to 44-tonne HGVs.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has become the first to drive an electric HGV from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just over 24 hours.

A Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 set off from John O’Groats on Wednesday 3^rd December and arrived at Land’s End a day later, becoming the first electric truck to successfully achieve this momentous drive.

With only three recharging stops - at Sterling, Sandbach and Exeter - during the 1,378km (854 miles) journey, this achievement demonstrates not only the long-distance capability, efficiency and technology of the new eActros 600, but also the growing potential for sustainable, fully-electric heavy-duty transport.

With an average efficiency of 1.175 km/kWh, the truck achieved a range of 510 km on a single charge. The 39.5 tonne eActros 600 was powered exclusively by fully renewable electricity and saved 1.22 kg of CO₂ per mile driven - amounting to a total reduction of 1,042 kg. This saving is equivalent to more than three years of an average UK household’s electricity-related CO₂ footprint

An electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and an Actros L ProCabin running on HVO contributed to the sustainability of Paris Fashion Week by delivering catwalk sets for a British luxury fashion house, via logistics partner, KB Event, in partnership with Mertrux Truck & Van.

Sustainability is increasingly important for the fashion industry, with some designers presenting collections made with up to 98% sustainable materials.

With an average truck weight of 27 tonnes for the trip from the UK to Paris, the fully-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 truck powered by 100% renewable energy travelled 772 miles (1,242km). This saved around 844kg of CO₂ emissions - as much as 37 mature trees absorb in one year - compared to a diesel truck doing the same trip. The consumption data for the electric eActros 600 showed it was achieving nearly 600km from a single charge.

The KB Event team seamlessly integrated any charging stops into its logistics, ensuring timely delivery without compromise. One of the drivers described the eActros 600 as: "An amazing bit of kit and the power behind the vehicle was especially impressive."

The British fashion house that used KB Event for its Paris Fashion Week logistics commented: "We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our shows. Marking the 10-year anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement, the house has collaborated with NGO ACT1.5 to adopt a 360º approach, from using low-impact set materials and electric transport to powering the show with renewable HVO energy."

The eActros 600, the International Truck of the Year 2025, is designed for long-distance haulage with a gross combination weight of up to 44 tonnes and is optimised for efficiency and range by the truck’s particularly efficient aerodynamics combined with a high battery capacity of more than 600 kilowatt hours. Megawatt Charging System capability means the eActros 600 can recharge from 20% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Salford City Council is setting new standards for sustainable waste collection with the addition of its first all-electric refuse collection vehicle (RCV), a 27-tonne Mercedes-Benz eEconic.

The eEconic combines zero emissions with a high payload capacity similar to the diesel Econic and a class-leading operational range of at least 150km in refuse operations, making it ideal for the stop-start demands of urban refuse collection. These features won Mercedes- Benz Trucks UK the title of Innovator of the Year by the expert judges of the Fleet Vision International Awards 2025.

The eEconic was selected after an extensive evaluation programme when it completed daily rounds on a single charge and returned to the depot with 40–60% spare battery capacity, outperforming all other models tested by Salford City Council.

At 27 tonnes when fully loaded – only one tonne more than the typical 26-tonne diesel equivalent – the eEconic handles the intensive demands of refuse collection with ease, collecting over 1,200 bins per day as part of the council’s 36-truck fleet.

Alan Fitzsimons, Transport Manager at Salford City Council, said: “The Mercedes-Benz eEconic is leaps and bounds above the rest. During our demonstration period, it completed every route with battery range to spare, while competitors struggled to finish on a single charge. It is 100% electric, and the range and regenerative braking are excellent. It has surpassed all our expectations and we’re proud to lead the way in sustainable waste collection for Salford residents.”

“For cost reasons, we previously bought cheaper trucks, but experience has shown that quality and reliability matter. We have been gradually returning our fleet to Mercedes-Benz, adding around one new vehicle per year to serve Salford’s growing population,” he added.

Drivers have responded positively to the eEconic’s performance and comfort. Anthony Kearns, HGV driver and trainer at Salford City Council, said: “My biggest worry was whether it would complete the route, but on my longest day, when I travel 60 miles and take three loads totalling 30 tonnes, it still has 36% battery left after seven hours. It’s second to none compared to other vehicles we’ve tried, plus other drivers keep telling me, ‘no wonder you like driving this – it’s like a Rolls Royce of bin trucks.’”

Anthony also praised the cab’s comfort: “It’s much quieter than a diesel, cooler in summer, smoother to drive, and a real pleasure for city streets. The pre-heat function and regenerative braking make a real difference, ensuring the battery lasts while keeping the cab comfortable.”

The eEconic features a special ‘Lest We Forget’ livery for Armed Forces week, demonstrating Salford City Council’s commitment to honouring military service while embracing sustainable technology.

Agrii, one of the UK’s leading agricultural distributors, has taken delivery of its first all-electric heavy goods vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 LS ProCabin Stream 4x2, marking a major step in the company’s move towards lower-emission logistics.

Supplied by Midlands Truck & Van, the new eActros 600 – which combines zero-emissions operation with class-leading long-distance performance – is one of the first of its kind to enter service in the UK.

The vehicle was selected after an extensive evaluation programme, including trials under full load on Agrii’s regular routes. With its class-leading 500 km+ range, the eActros 600 was the only electric HGV capable of completing Agrii’s demanding 460 km nightly round trip between its central distribution centre and network of depots on a single charge, with energy to spare.

Based on a typical annual mileage of 60,000 km, the eActros 600 is expected to reduce Agrii’s carbon emissions by around 59 tonnes each year.

The eActros 600’s quiet, all-electric powertrain also brings operational advantages, particularly during night-time deliveries to rural areas where reduced noise helps minimise disturbance to local communities.

The vibrant and distinctive branding on the eActros 600 was professionally wrapped by Finch signs using Metamark Metaglide vinyl for a premium, durable finish. Printed on a new Roland VG3-540 printer to ensure exceptional colour accuracy and detail, Metaglide’s advanced adhesive technology allows for precise application of the wrap, with excellent repositionability, making it ideal for the complex contours of vehicle cabs.

This delivery marks another milestone in Agrii’s long-standing relationship with Midlands Truck & Van and Truck Sales Executive, Amit Verma, who have supported the company’s Mercedes-Benz fleet development for more than a decade.

SAS Tech Services has marked its 25-year commitment to Mercedes-Benz Trucks with a bold step into the future of sustainable logistics - the arrival of its first all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, supplied by trusted dealer Midlands Truck & Van.

The Northampton-based Managed Service Provider, which specialises in collecting end-of-life IT equipment for recycling, will run the ground-breaking eActros 600 on weekly round trips between the UK and Holland. It is expected to cover 80,000 miles a year in total.

Pulling a state-of-the-art double-decker trailer, the new truck will collect used technology from across Europe before distributing it to recycling centres in the UK.

For a business built around recycling, adopting zero-emission vehicles was a natural next step. “We’ve already had great experiences with our Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, so the move to an electric HGV was the logical progression,” said Lee Spendlove, Managing Director of SAS Tech Services.

The decision was sealed when one of SAS’s drivers trialled a demonstrator vehicle. “It is amazing! I’m a convert to electric,” he said - underlining just how quickly drivers are warming to the smooth, quiet performance of the eActros 600.

With a real-world range of over 500 km, the truck will typically only need one charge on its journeys to Holland. Convenient access to charging infrastructure en route makes electric long-haul a practical solution for SAS Tech Services and its customers.

Alongside the eActros 600, SAS Tech Services has also added a new Actros L ProCabin 1853LS Gigaspace 4x2. Covering more than 100,000 miles annually, it will serve recycling centres across England, Wales, and Scotland.

Both new trucks have been ordered with high specifications to prioritise driver comfort and pride of ownership. Features include a full leather interior, microwave oven, chrome alloy wheels and LED lighting. The striking vehicles will also serve as show trucks at events like TruckFest, further boosting the SAS brand.

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has become the first in Formula One history to complete a long-haul journey solely using an all-electric truck.

In a demonstration of the viability of electric trucks and the decarbonisation of long-distance haulage, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team used an eActros 600 to transport its W16 race cars from its UK base at Brackley, Northamptonshire, to Zandvoort in Holland for the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix. Based on its consumption during the journey, the truck could have done the 673km journey on a single charge.

This landmark journey highlights both the capability of the eActros 600 and the team’s determination to push the boundaries of sustainability in motorsport logistics. The journey was completed using 100% renewable energy thanks to charging at a dedicated Milence truck charging hub.

The electric truck stood out at the Dutch Grand Prix from all the diesel-powered transportation used by other competitors.

The continental journey to Holland followed a pilot trip to the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone earlier this summer using three Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks to take all the cars and supporting equipment.

With its ambition to become one of the most sustainable global professional sports teams, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is constantly exploring new ways to use green technologies to reduce its emissions. The team has already taken the initiative of using HVO100, a second-generation biofuel, to power its trucks and generators since 2022, which saved more than 500 tonnes of emissions during last year’s race season.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros is the International Truck of the Year 2025 with a class-leading minimum range of 500km per full charge. Rapid charging using the megawatt charging system (MCS) allows the truck’s 600kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery to go from 20% to 80% charge in just 25 minutes.

Sam Fender’s People Watching Tour of the UK and Ireland has set a new benchmark for sustainability in live music, becoming the first major tour to use transportation powered entirely by electric trucks.

Partnering with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and KB Event, the sell-out run of shows was supported by four eActros 600s - saving 840kg CO₂eq over the 934 miles travelled (the equivalent of what 33.6 mature trees can absorb annually) while keeping to a demanding, back-to-back schedule across England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Each night, the trucks carried stage sets and equipment hundreds of miles between venues, charging on the road using the existing UK and Irish HGV infrastructure.

With a class-leading 500km+ range on a single charge and the ability to recharge from 20–80% in just 25 minutes, the eActros 600 truck proved more than up to the challenge of the fast-paced touring world.

“Transport is a key part of any live music tour, but we wanted to make the People Watching Tour as green and sustainable as possible,” said Richard Burnett MD of KB Event, who provided the tour logistics. “Until now, electric trucks weren’t seen as viable for big tours, but the eActros 600 has shown they can deliver the performance, the range, and the reliability. No one else can do this like Mercedes-Benz Trucks.”

Sam Fender himself was equally excited: “We’ve just finished our summer tour where we used Mercedes-Benz electric trucks operated by KB Event. Hopefully, this will help show what can be achieved on future tours and other artists will jump onboard too. Big thanks to everyone involved and to Massive Attack for pioneering the way with more sustainable touring.”

The feedback wasn’t just from the stage. Drivers of the eActros 600 were quick to praise the truck’s refinement and overall usability.

Despite tight deadlines, charging posed no issues during the tour. “We only needed a maximum 90-minute stop to recharge, which slotted neatly into the schedule,” added Burnett. “It will be even easier when venues start adding their own charging hubs.”

Mercedes-Benz Trucks and long-term partner Econ Engineering have celebrated a major milestone with the handover of the 1,000th Mercedes-Benz Arocs gritter, reinforcing a partnership that has kept Britain’s roads safe through more than two decades of harsh winters.

The landmark vehicle – a striking Arocs in a celebratory blue livery – was supplied by Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer Northside Truck & Van in Leeds. It features the latest Spargo gritter body, developed by Econ Engineering, and joins the company’s hire fleet of more than 1,000 winter maintenance vehicles.

Econ Engineering, the UK’s largest manufacturer of gritters and specialist winter maintenance equipment, has been working with Mercedes-Benz Trucks for more than 22 years.

Together, they’ve built the country’s largest own-brand hire fleet – a fleet that covered more than 247,800 miles of gritter routes last year alone, ensuring communities could keep moving safely when conditions were at their toughest.
